?Know Your Invasives
Invasive plants and animals are a fact of life in Florida, as non-native species continue to arrive and flourish. What do they look like? Why are they a problem? What can you do to control them? “Know Your Invasives” is an upcoming program at the Trout Lake Nature Center (TLNC) to be held on Sept. 16 from 10 AM to Noon.
Come learn from the experts about what is being done locally to meet the invasive threats (both plant and animal) to our natural systems. Invasive plant samples will help you learn to identify invasives or evidence of their damage.
If you think you may have an invasive plant, gather a small sample and bring it to the program in a sealed bag for identification and information on how to treat it. Many invasive plants spread by spores and sealed bags will limit their spread. All sealed plants must be taken home with you to protect TLNC’s habitats.
Some invasive animal information, photos and live exotic animals will help you learn about state regulations for keeping exotic pets and what is being done to control that have escaped or been released into our natural systems.
This interactive program replaces TLNC’s October Friday Night Naturalist Program and will take place outdoors due to Covid. The Trout Lake Nature Center is located at 520 East CR 44, Eustis. This program is free to attend but a $5 donation is suggested to support this donation-dependent non-profit's future programs.
